Personally I can't see any reason why my stuff should ever touch DSD as it seems to be objectively inferior in almost every way possible. Here are some measurements with links to more:Īrchimago's Musings: MEASUREMENTS: PCM to DSD Upsampling Effects (JRiver MC19 Beta). Even the average joe client can clearly hear the difference.May be the difference you hear between PCM and DSD is due to some euphonic distortion DSD adds. Something (mojo, depth, space, air, etc.) definitely gets lost on the Lavry, but not with the Korg. There is without any doubt a worthwhile difference between my MR2000 (at 5.6mhz) and my Lavry Blue PCM 24/96 for capturing dense, hi track count mixes off of an analog console with lots of analog processing on individual tracks. The D/A of the Korg sounds more than good enough for this purpose IMO. Well, I wasn't talking about DSD for multi-track recording, but as a final 2 track mixdown deck. Even the average joe client can clearly hear the difference. So it's pretty much the same principal as a 1/2" analog 2 track deck without the coloration. in front of the PCM capture device that gets it down to 16/44.1. The D/A of the Korg sounds more than good enough for this purpose IMO.Īnd any ME worth his salt these days will most certainly have a top end analog chain for EQ, compression (if even needed), limiting, etc. Secondly it seems impossible to apply any kind of manipulation (eq, compression etc) and for those operations it has got to be converted to PCM and back again but then what is the point of using DSD in the first place? Well, I wasn't talking about DSD for multi-track recording, but as a final 2 track mixdown deck. I've only read up on DSD fairly superficially but what I've read makes me question its usefulness.ĭSD appears to have two problems: Fairly high distortion inherent in 1bit DSD systems which can be alleviated by using mulitbit versions but then what is the point of using DSD in the first place? And I want to know if I recorded a dsd file on it, how do I convert it into PCM format ? And does dsd really sound much better than PCM ? I also think that the average punter is more interested in high quality audio instead of DSD unless serious archiving. I think unless you are using a console there are not many ways except for a round trip. I can record with my decent preamps and outboard straight into the Denon and then audio editor or With capabilities of being able to record to either USB or SD card and some nice features I finally The only other recorder was a solid state and that is the Denon DN-500R. ![]() Seems like USA got a decent discount compared to other countries. ![]() None at all as I already have some decent AD/DA in other products. The Tascam on the other hand as much as I liked the specs I wanted a neutral AD/DA or Korg because it has been discontinued and I dont like the idea of being tied into Twitter ![]() Master recorders have been on my agenda for quite a while and I didnt go with the
